So let's first define a good graphic designer. Truth is, every designer is good, having their own kind of style, strokes and take on art. A good graphic designer should posses a creative vision and has the ability to think spatially --- but being artistic and creative is not enough. A good graphic designer is actually expected to have good communication skills and solid business goals. It helps in dealing with potential clients, businessmen and audience as well.

Going to school and getting a degree in design is a must for anyone serious about this kind of career. When researching school options, it should not be a program for fine arts, but one that is designated for graphic design. Many schools work with students to help them find employment during and after graduation with a company desiring a graphic design artist.
