Qimonda patents licensed to Mosaid
Bankrupt dram maker Qimonda is in talks with Canadian chip designer Mosaid over a possible licensing agreement.
Both companies have now entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which could see Qimonda provide Mosaid with exclusive licensing services for its entire patent portfolio.
Dresden-based Qimonda, which spun out of Infineon Technologies in 2006, currently has around 7,500 patents and applications.
The company filed for bankruptcy in 2009, saying it had assets and liabilities in excess of $1billion.
"We are extremely pleased to have signed this MoU," said John Lindgren, pictured, Mosaid's president and ceo. "The patent portfolio represents some of the industry's most innovative work in semiconductor memory and semiconductor process technology."
