If you are on a pay-monthly contract, the service is free (you will need to see out your contract of course). If you are on PAYG, I believe O2 charges £15. Also, I understand that they may apply a minimum period before they unlock (which, frankly, is not unreasonable; you could have bought the phone at full price outright).

Long before you put your money into a used iPhone for sale; make certain the provider of Phone has a decent return policy, and one that preferably supplies you with a cash back option. Upon the receipt of the used iPhone, inspect the item carefully for exterior damage and interior water damage, and then test the item to make sure it works.
